Train your dog!

Hello!!!

I'm glad you decided to stop by!
Training your dog can be very fun, for you and your dog as well.
It is very rewarding, and healthy. Dogs need to use their mind, make them think before they get something, so everything is a challenge, like humans, is not fun to have everything easy, the more things you know how to do the better!
Dogs need to be shown how to do things many times before they understand. The key to training is to be patient.
Never punish your dog for not doing what you tell him to, he will not understand why this is happening, and it won't be so exciting next time you try to train him.
The best way to teach your dog tricks is to make it fun and rewarding for him.
Again, be patient, the more you show him how to do something, the more he'll learn.
The mind is a beautiful thing, and is necessary you use it, the same goes to your dog.
Practice new tricks only a few minutes at a time. You never want your dog to get bored when learning tricks.
The lessons shouldn't be more than 10 or 15 minutes daily.
Make sure that when you train your dog, you are in a quiet place, away from distractions
Okay! Lets get started! And good luck!

The first thing I'm gonna teach you today is the command "Sit."

For the dog, there are two ways to learn a command, by hearing and by hand signal (deaf dog can learn these tricks too!). So pick a signal for the command sit, so you can do it at the same time as you say it.
Get your dog to look at you and say "Sit", also with the hand signal, then push his/her behind down (gently, please!). And say "Good Dog!". (you can also give him/her a treat to reward him/her)
Do it a few times everyday, if you think that he/she got it, try the command without helping him/her, give him/her a few minutes to figure out the command, and if he/she does it, reward him a lot this time!
If he/she doesn't do it, don't worry, just help him/her do it, some dogs take longer than others to learn! And remember, they are just learning, so don't get upset with them!

The next trick is "Shake".

The first thing that we want to do is start by having your dog sit (remember, try to teach him/her 1 trick per day, we don't want to confuse him/her.) Then take say "Shake" and take his/her paw, then say "Good Dog!" and give him/her the reward.
Let go of his/her paw.
Do this a few times everyday.
Again, if you think that he/she got it, try the command without helping him/her, give him/her a few minutes to figure out the command, and if he/she does it, reward him a lot this time!
If he/she doesn't do it, don't worry, just help him/her do it, some dogs take longer than others to learn! And remember, they are just learning, so don't get upset with them!

The next trick is "Lay Down" or "Down".(this trick might be easier to teach on the leash)

There are different techniques on teaching your dog how to lay down, pick the one that's easier for you, and specially your dog.
This is number one:
Have your dog sit down. Shorten the leash and pull down (gently) and say "Down" (use also the hand signal), your dog will eventually lay, when he/she does, say "Good Dog!" and reward him/her. Do this a few times everyday.
This is number two:
Have your dog sit, let him/her smell the treat, make him go down and say "Down" (use also the hand signal), when he lays down, say "Good Dog!" and give him/her his/hers reward.Do this a few times everyday.
And number three:
(if it's a big dog you might need some help) Have your dog sit. Use the hand signal and say "Down", grab his/hers front paws and gently make him/her lay down, say "Good Dog!" and give him/her the reward.Do this a few times everyday.

And the next one will "Speak"

Get your dog really happy and excited, play with him/her and when he/she barks say "Speak" and then say "Good Dog!" and give him/her the reward. Do this a a few times everyday.
Your dog will eventually bark when you say speak.

Well, that's it for now! I will add some more tricks in the future! Good luck with these!
